Merrell | Tough Mudder Campaign


Merrell created trail shoe is the support of its three-year partnership with Tough Mudder. The exclusively branded and designed trail shoe has been built tough, to tackle all elements. Including, the famed and feared Tough Mudder obstacle course – the All Out Tough Mudder.

As a Sports PR agency, Brandnation was tasked to increase awareness and drive sales for the new shoe in the UK. We did this via an intensive, integrated marketing plan.

Campaign Elements

The Brandnation content team drove activity via PR, Influencer, and Social Media activity. In addition to the 60+ nationwide events. We kicked off with Tough Mudder West London, which attracted 25,000 participants and their supporters. Over the course of the weekend, Brandnation hosted media and influencer teams to participate (wearing Merrell, of course). After that, they were involved in various events around the UK, ensuring all posted positively about Merrell, as well as the new shoes.

Branding Tough Mudder

Brandnation’s Creative team was responsible for in-village, on-course, chill-out zone, and on-stage branding. As well as the branding on tickets and all marketing materials. Brandnation drove sales and awareness by supporting the campaign digitally and by paid advertisement.


Tough Mudder is the world-dominating off-road obstacle event, with 10 miles of mud, testing mind and body limits. Your reward isn’t a trophy; it’s the shared craziness, and enjoyment between everyone tackling the course on the day.
